Bertha's life was not average. Chapters of it are well spread around.

Her father, Thomas Welcome McPherson, who affectionately called her "Birdie" is a good read.

Her husband, John Henry Sierck, was the California-born son of German immigrants to America (according to the 1900 U.S. Census).

John and Bertha exchanged vows February 16, 1891.
From the union were born sons:

- Harry Deloine Sierck

- Russell Charles Sierck (born January 29, 1899 in California, died: March 2, 1978 in Sonoma County. Married Margaret Esther Perry, September 7, 1919, lived Marin County, but grave has not yet been found)

- An infant son passed away June 29, 1901, aged 4 months, 21 days

- Early/Earl J. Sierck, Sonoma, California, born August 1, 1902, died January 18, 1965 Glenn County, California.

The final resting place of her brother, Charles Walter "Charlie" McPherson, born June 19, 1869, in Healdsburg, California, has not been located.

Descendants of Bertha have Revolutionary War patriot ancestors through McPherson and Kincheloe lineage.

1898 historical maps showed "C.W. & Bertha M. McPherson 162 acres" straddling California Highway 128 about 500 feet west of the Geysers Road intersection. Earlier maps circa 1877, suggest their father "T.W. McPherson" also owned land south from that parcel to make a full 400 acres.
