Susan Gera Hvasta, a former resident of Scranton, died Sunday evening in Florida. Her husband, Carl F. Hvasta, died Sept. 6, 1986.

Born July 26, 1911, in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Zatkovitch Gera. Before retiring, she worked for American Tobacco Co. She had lived in Florida for the past eight years, and was a faithful and devoted member of Holy Family Church. Throughout the years, she quilted at the church for her family. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Ben, Warminster; and Margaret Moran and husband, Edward, with whom she resided, The Villages, Fla.; a sister, Irene Kavulich, Taylor; six grandchildren, Robert A. Moran and wife, Mary; Adam Ben and wife, Dee; Michael Ben and wife, Karen; Carl Ben and wife, Randi; Susan Van Abs and husband, William; and Marie Anne Ben; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Gera, and four sisters, Anna Shimo, Mary Mraz, Helen Katchmar and Margaret David.

The funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Holy Family Church, 510 E. Gibson St. Interment, parish cemetery, Throop.

Friends may call Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lake and Sumter County Inc., 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. Published in Scranton Times on September 5, 2007
