Cecil Carpenter, 63, of Thalia, Texas passed away in a Wichita Falls, Texas hospital after a brief illness. Cecil was born June 22, 1915 in Crowell, Texas, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Carpenter. He married Peggy Brown August 17, 1936 in Richmond, Indiana. Until his retirement, he operated Carpenters' Grocery and Service Station in Thalia. Cecil was president of the Santa Rosa Telephone Cooperative and was the Thalia Postmaster. He served 12 years as a director of the Santa Rosa Telephone Cooperative and was the longtime manager of the Thalia Water Supply System. Cecil and his wife, Peggy were the heart and soul of the Thalia community. His passing will leave a tremendous void as he and Peggy kept Thalia going. Cecil was a hard working man that lived a full life and loved to have fun. Surviving are his wife, Peggy, of Thalia; three sons, David of Wichita Falls, Gary Allen of Dallas and Tommy of Thalia; one daughter, Mary Sue Adkins of Crowell; four brothers, George, Vernon and Russell Carpenter, all of Dayton, Ohio and Bill Carpenter of Kentucky and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jake Wisdom, Fred Gray, Howard Thomas, Homer Martin, Ted Reeder, Robert Kincaid, Billy Johnson and Jesse Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Directors and the employees of Santa Rosa Telephone Cooperative.
