Charles Dannenhauer, was born, Sept 6, 1880, the son of Samuel Dannenhauer and Mary Ann Hess; in Lewis County, MO., near the town of Canton. Following the death of his father on May 31, 1882. he and his mother went to live with his grandparents, Jonas and Elizabeth Eck Hess in Clark Co., Mo. Here he remained until grown to young manhood. He decided to go west, where he worked in the employ of the railroad until stricken with consumption. He went to New Mexico, hoping that the change of climate would benefit him, but finding no relief, he decided to make an effort to see his mother again before she passed away, and then go to his childhood home to await the summons of the Master. But the end came before he reached his old home and he departed this life on June 18, 1917, aged 36 years, 9 months and 10 days. Just two days after the death of his mother, Mary Ann Hess Dannenhauer Ludwig.
Funeral services were held at the old home of his mother, 5 miles southeast of Lewistown, on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with burial in the Lewistown Cemetery.
