Mary Goeke was born December 12, 1872 in St. Charles, Missouri. Her parents were Friedrich Goeke and Teresa Seidhoff. By 1879, the family had moved to Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas where her brother John Joseph Goeke was born. Her mother died sometime after the 1880 census.
Mary married Valentine Feist on January 9, 1894 in Westphalia, Falls County, Texas in a double wedding with Valentine's sister, Mary Feist, and Mary's brother, Fred Goeke.
Valentine was a farmer in Westphalia, Falls County, Texas. There was unceasing rain and crop failures followed by a cholera epidemic. Valentine became ill and died September 13, 1908. He is buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Cyclone, Texas.
After Valentine died, Mary packed up her family and belongings on a wagon. They drove 40 miles, sold the mules and took the train to San Angelo, Texas. Valentine's brother Mike Feist took them to his home near Mereta. Mary took money the family had saved and bought land east of San Angelo. The family cleared the land, pulling stumps and plowing fields with oxen.
In 1920, Mary left the Farm in the care of her son, Fred, and moved to Rowena. In 1934, she married Fred Hasenak and moved back to the farm.
Mary died November 20, 1949. She is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rowena, Texas.
