Special to Gazette

MAQUOKETA – Loras Ahern, 24, of Maquoketa was killed about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when the car he was driving collided with one driven by Allen Brady, also of Maquoketa, on highway 64 about four blocks from the business district.

Police said both cars were apparently traveling at high speeds, and that the impact of the crash carried them off the street into the front yard of the Dr. M. A. Dalchow residence.

Maquoketa officials were holding Brady for investigation Thursday. A passenger in his car, Earl Bowman, suffered a fractured collar bone and was hospitalize.

Police said the car Ahern was driving was owned by Richard Robinson, 23, of Maquoketa. Robinson was a passenger in the car but was not injured.
