LA CROSSE, Wis. - Maynard L. Brostrom, 79, of La Crosse died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Downsville, Wis., to Harold F. and Dorothy C. (Watland) Brostrom. He served with the U.S, Army in Germany during the Korean War.
He married Jean Radsek on April 28, 1956, in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nodine, Minn. Maynard had worked for Milwaukee Road for several years and then at the Trane Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Metalworkers Lodge 115 and a member of the Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595, La Crescent. He also was a member of the La Crosse Exercise and Health Program (LEHP) since 1996. Maynard enjoyed making campfire tripods, camping, golfing, riding bikes and square dancing. Maynard and Jean were members of the Coulee Region Promenaders and the Relaxin Campers.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Sharon (Donovan) Holter of Auburn, Wash., Diane Keaton of Dakota, Minn., and Kathleen (Bruce) Stoehr of Dakota, 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Shirley) Brostrom of Winona and Richard Brostrom of Thailand; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, LaMoine.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nodine. Pastor Dennis Harbach will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery
