Manuel Jay Bailey Sr., 71, of Bowling Green, died at 2:32 p.m. Aug. 5, 2011, at The Medical Center surrounded by his family.
The Rainsville, Ala., native was born Sept. 25, 1939. He was a retired painter from Mail Well Labeling after more than 30 years, and was a Baptist. He loved life, having a good time, fishing, collecting baseball cards, his family and his farm animals. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a son of the late Dilmus Columbus Bailey and Vaudia May Kennedy Bailey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W.C. Bailey and Meryl Bailey.
Funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Glenda Faye Wells Bailey; eight daughters, Tammy Cheatam and her husband, Rick, of Perkins, Ill., Mary Stogdill and her husband, Tim, of East Peoria, Ill., Doris Roberts and her companion, Russell Williams, Debbie Dodson and her husband, Jonathan, Julie Senters and her companion, Jeff York, Barbara Eppling and her husband, Patrick, and Melinda Baize and her husband, George, all of Bowling Green, and Brenda Vanderpool and her husband, Randy, of Portland, Tenn.; three sons, Manuel Bailey Jr. and his wife, Theresa, and Michael Bailey, all of Peoria, Ill., and Tommy Craft of Bowling Green; a brother, Verlon Bailey and his wife, Pauline, of Section, Ala.; a sister, Evelyn Reed and her husband, Durward, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Judy Bailey and her companion, Wayne Bryan, of Center, Ala.; 42 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
