On the morning of May 11, 1978, Randy started his morning by greeting his father with a "Happy Birthday Pop"...I'm going to the park for a run...be back soon... Randy never returned home. On his way home from the park his car broke down near the intersection of Cypress and Jefferies Avenues. While attemping to fix his car several young men approched him, shot him, fatally wounding him. According to the Northeast area homicide investigators, the shooting was gang related.
