Evaline Ellen Jessup was born in Parke, Indiana on March 2, 1836, to John and Cynthia Ann Mounts Jessup. She was loving referred to as "Aunt Ellen" by family and friends. She was united in marriage to Thomas Allen Barnes (1826-1892). To this union, the following children were born: William H., John Newton, Silas Lafayette "Lafe", Robert N., Oliver H., Toney and Edward Overton.
