She attended schools in Pinewood, graduated from Columbia College in 1940 and then taught school in Alcolu and North Charleston. On July 5, 1944, Henrietta married the chemical engineer from USC who had fallen in love with her some years earlier when she was the chaperone as he dated a Columbia College underclasswoman. She moved with him from Charleston to Arkansas, Virginia, Georgia and then back to South Carolina with his career in the paper industry.
Mrs. Clark returned to teaching in Rock Hill at Rosewood Elementary School and was chosen Teacher of the Year of the Rock Hill School District in 1977. She earned a master's degree in Education from Winthrop University. She was active in A.D.K., a teacher's organization, for many years. After retiring from public school teaching, Mrs. Clark volunteered by teaching English as a Second Language and G.E.D. preparation. She was instrumental in the development of the Shepherd's Center in Rock Hill. She and her husband traveled all over the United States and the world in their retirement years together before his death in 1997.
Mrs. Clark was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church in Rock Hill for over 40 years. She taught Sunday school , served on many committees and was Chairperson of the Administrative Board. She moved to Laurel Crest Retirement Center in West Columbia in 2002. In West Columbia, she attended Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and services at Laurel Crest.
