Shelby Joe Brooks, 81, of Springfield went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in his residence. He was born in Harrogate, TN on February 28, 1929, the son of Riley and Elizabeth Brooks, the last of 10 brothers and sisters. Shelby served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and retired from Navistar with 32 years of service as a metal finisher. He was a longtime member of the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church and his hobbies included fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dean (Meek) Brooks; two brothers Neal and Walter Brooks; seven sisters Ethel Stone, Ruth Fultz, Della Fultz, Vola Mustard, Ellamae Chadwell, Flossie Adams, and Allie Brooks. His survivors include his son and daughter in law Rickey and Melanie Brooks of Fairborn; five grandchildren Cierra, Jordan, Joshua, Chelsea, and Gabriel Shelby; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call Friday from 5-8PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. A celebration of Shelby's life will be Saturday at 10:30AM in the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial to follow in South Vienna Cemetery.
