Gertie Adams was born most probably somewhere in Iowa and died on March 27, 1899 at the age of 8 in Omaha. She was buried in Section of Forest Lawn Cemetery, and family members prepared and placed a homemade stone marker on her grave. For many years in the 1920's and 1930's, family members would visit her grave, according to the recollection of Mary Jane (Adams) Harvey, daughter of Gertie's brother, Fred Adams. As time moved on the grave was visited less frequently and the marker was forgotten and eventually lost. In 2004 the shards of Gertie's headstone were discovered by family members just under the grass on her grave site. The shards were retained by family members for safekeeping, and a small temporary paving stone was placed on her grave. The current marker was placed in June 2014 by descendants of Gertie's brother, Fred Adams.
