James Curtis Alwert

James Curtis Alwert, 74, of North Vernon died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, in a traffic accident on U.S. Hwy 50 west of North Vernon.

Mr. Alwert retired in 1983 from R & W Trucking in Gary after 36 years. He was currently employed as a cashier at Swifty Oil in North Vernon, where he had worked for 13 years. He was a Navy veteran, and enjoyed driving, working, watching NASCAR and football, and was a Chicago Cubs fan.

There will be no visitation or service.

Born December 30, 1929, in Mason, Illinois, Mr. Alwert was the son of George Oscar and Sadie Landreth Alwert.

He married Priscilla Caron on September 9, 1955, in Crown Point. She survives.

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Donna Snearley of Bokeelia, Florida, Celia Dietrich of Chesterton and Heather Alwert of Brownsburg; a sister Sarah Croft of Champaign, Illinois; grandsons, Trever Snearley and Joel Snearley, both of Bokeelia; and granddaughters, Jesica Cherry of Schererville and Tiffany Petroc of Los Angeles, California.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Curtis Alwert Jr. on November 19, 2002.
