"The LaFayette Sun" - August 25, 1915:

Whoever once lived in LaFayette always has a hankering to get back to the old town. Hon. Jas. D. Norman, who left LaFayette a number of years ago and has made his home in Lanett, has bought out Dr. Grady's Morris place in the southwest section of town – at least, he has purchased a portion of the place, including the residence, and between forty and fifty acres of the land. We are glad to know that Mr. Norman is again to become our fellow townsman. He and his family will find cordial welcome from many old friends.

"The LaFayette Sun" - December 12, 1917:

Hon. J. D. Norman Died Last Thursday.

Hon. James D. Norman died at his home in this city last Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. He had been ill for several months, but his condition did not become alarming until a short time before his death. The entire community grieves with the family in their loss, for Mr. Norman was a man the town and county could ill afford to lose. Progressive and public-spirited, faithful to all responsibilities, doing first for his family and friends, and then with a heart big enough to encompass all who were in need. Loyal to his church and to society, Mr. Norman had taken a prominent part in public life, standing for the right and with the courage of his convictions. He and his family lived in LaFayette a number of years ago, during which time he served as mayor of several terms. They moved to Lanett and he was elected mayor of that city. They moved back to Lafayette in 1915. Mr. Norman was twice elected to the state legislature from this county and served as state senator from Chambers and Randolph counties for two terms.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in this city last Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, where a large congregation had assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to their friend. Services were conducted by Rev. H. R. Arnold, assisted by Rev. A. C. Yeargan. Both paid beautiful and fitting tributes to the many noble traits of the deceased. The church altar was covered with floral offerings. The remains were interred in the city cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his wife, three daughters - Mrs. Calloway, of West Point, Misses Mary and Sadie Norman, of this city; five sons - Mr. Harry Norman, of Opelika; Mr. Ed Norman, of Birmingham; Mr. Brewer Norman of Haskell, Texas; Mr. Frank Norman, of West Point, and Mr. Raymond Norman, a member of the national army, stationed at Camp Gordon.
