To Open Furniture and Grocery Business Sept. 1st – Will Carry Complete Stock.
A new furniture and grocery business will be established here September 1st under the firm name of L. D. Fargason & Co. The new firm will carry a complete stock of furniture and coffins, staple and fancy groceries. They will occupy two store rooms on the south side of the square – the one recently vacated by the G. E. Collins Drug Co., and the adjoining building which has been occupied by J. C. Lunceford. Workmen are now engaged in repairing these buildings, and it is promised that the stock, which has been selected, will be modern and attractive.
The business will be in charge of Messrs. L. D. Fargason and J. W. Blackmon, who are both thoroughly identified with this section, and who have established a reputation for business sagacity and integrity. The announcement of their intention to enter this business will be read with interest of this section.
We invite the attention of our readers to the new firm's announcement, which appears elsewhere in this issue of The Sun.

Mr. Fargason will enter the Insurance and Brokerage business. He represents some of the best old line companies to be had, both life and fire and any business entrusted to him will be safe.

Mr. L. D. Fargason Died Friday Night.
Our community was greatly shocked to hear of the death of Mr. L. D. Fargason, which occurred in the office of Drs. Palmer and Cooper, at Opelika, last Friday night. Mr. Fargason left LaFayette for Opelika Friday morning, and upon arriving there, went to the office of Dr. Cooper, seeking relief from asthma, from which disease he had for a long time been a great sufferer. It is said that Dr. Cooper examined Mr. Fargason just before going to dinner and told him to await his return for further examination. When Drs. Palmer and Cooper returned from dinner they found him lying on the floor, unconscious, and upon examination discovered that he was in a very critical condition. All efforts to revive him failed and the end came at 9:30. The body was prepared for burial and brought to his home here Saturday morning.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member, at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. R. Arnold, who was assisted by Dr. W. C. Bledsoe and Rev. J. M. McCleskey. A large congregation assembled to pay respect to the memory of the deceased. Many beautiful floral offerings were banked about the altar. A quartette composed of Mrs. J. F. Jones, Mrs. C. W. Lowe, Messrs. Hugh Barrow, and Herbert Yeargan, with Miss Bessie Tucker at the piano, sang during the service "Abide With Me," "It Is Well With My Soul" and "My Father Knows", and as the congregation dispersed "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" was rendered.
The deceased is survived by his wife and four daughters – Lillian, Irene, Annie Laurie and Durelle; two brothers – Dr. C. C. Fargason, of Dudleyville, and Mr. J. W. J. Fargason, of Macon, Ga.; three sisters – Mrs. Reuben Thompson, of Wadley and Mrs. Lucious Jennings, of Dudleyville, who were present at the funeral and a sister, Mrs. Dassa King, of Wewoka, Okla. Also surviving the deceased is the aged father, Rev. Thos. D. Fargason, of Dudleyville, and a large number of other relatives.
After the church services were concluded the Masons took charge and escorted the body to the cemetery where it was deposited with Masonic honors. An impressive feature of the funeral services was the attendance in a body of the Barracas of the Baptist Sunday School, of which Mr. Fargason was a member.
The deceased was 44 years of age and had lived all his life in this section. A most devoted husband and father, his was a happy home and the shadow that has fallen there has brought gloom to the great host of friends who feel the deepest sympathy for the bereaved family.

Resolved, that we shall ever cherish his memory and strive to emulate his virtues; kind genial and generous, we shall miss him as we assemble in our Castle Hall from time to time.
Resolved, that we extend to his family our heartfelt sympathy in their great bereavement.
Resolved, that these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of the Lodge, and that a copy of the same be sent to the family of our deceased brother; and, future, that The LaFayette Sun be requested to publish the same.

In the death of our beloved brother, the Lodge lost a loyal member, true to the traditions of the Fraternity and ever ready to respond to its needs. The community lost a citizen of high ideals and the family a tender and loving father.
Be it resolved, that we bow in humble submission to the will of the great Grand Master of the Universe. That we extend to the bereaved family our sympathy and condolence in this sad hour. True consolation can come from only the great Physician and Healer and to Him we commend this good family of our deceased brother.
Resolved further, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our Lodge, a copy furnished the family and also published in The LaFayette Sun.
