Obituary:
"Mrs. Anna Margaret (sic) Alter was born in Washington, Pa., on April 13th 1816 and died in Mitchell, Ind., on June 4th 1896, being at the time of her decease, 80 years, 1 month and 21 days of age.
"She was the daughter of the Hon. and noted Joseph RITNER, who was governor of the great state of Pennsylvania from A.D. 1835 to A.D. 1839. She was married to David MELL Alter in the city of Harrisburg on the 20th day of April, 1837, and was the mother of 12 children, 7 sons and 5 daughters, all but two of whom are living. She with her family came to the state of Indiana, A.D. 1840 (1850 Census shows her with family in Plum Twnsp, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, ‘where she united with the Parnassus Presbyterian church in Allegheny county, Pal, A.D. 1840,) and placed her membership with the Presbyterian church in Mitchell A.D. 1866, where it has remained until her recent transfer from the church militant to the church triumphant.
"Faithful to her God, faithful to her kindred and friends, she failed not in faithfulness to herself and at last entered into the full final and perpetual reward bestowed upon all the faithful.
"May the mantle of her life purity, her unswerving religious devotion, full sweetly and efficiently upon the members of her much beloved family whom she leaves behind and may her religious example be followed by multitudes who in the day of eternity shall 'Rise up and call her blessed.'
"She was the last of her father's family to leave the shores of time and as it is a pleasing thought to believe that they shall be the first to greet her in the great beyond, may she be the first to meet and greet her own when they too shall be called to exchange time for eternity."
