Ernest Minkley passed away after an extended illness on July 6, 2011 at his home in Lake City, Florida.

Mr.Minkley was born to Curt and Aileen Dean Minkley in Ludowici, Georgia in 1923. The family relocated to Mount Dora, Florida where he attended school excelling in many sports. After graduation, he entered the Naval Reserve in 1942 and served in the Submarine Service on the USS Crevalle as a Torpedoman patrolling in the Indian Ocean and South China Seas.

Mr. Minkley was later employed by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. as a lineman and later as an equipment installer. He held various positions in the business section until being appointed manager in Volusia and Flagler Counties. His latest assignment was as Manager of the company's business operations in Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties.

Until his retirement, he was interested in a wide variety of civic activities accepting leadership roles as president of Lake City-Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, Lake City Country Club, Rotary International and as Chairman of The Charity Horse Show. He chaired the March of Dimes and had active roles in the United Fund.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years, Sara Hill Minkley, three children: Nancy Borden (Neil), Raymond (Linda), Jane Zippel (Randy) and stepson Ronnie Brannon (Tracy). Also four sisters and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers.

Friends of the family will be received at 10:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The services will also be at Pleasant Grove at 11:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove cemetery immediately following the service.
