He was born on December 15, 1921, in North Montpelier, Vt., the son of Burton and Esther (Lane) Corliss.
Ray was a graduate of Spaulding High School Class of 1941. He was employed as a machinist in Hartford, Conn., and a miner in Strafford, Vt., before serving his country with the U.S. Army during WWII.
Upon his discharge from the service, he served as a Vermont state trooper from 1947 until 1954, before becoming employed as a truck driver for Carris Reels for 25 years and owning and operating his own truck for many years. After retiring in 1990, he operated a limo service.
Ray married Shirley McPhee on October 26, 1946, who predeceased him on May 14, 2011.
He is survived by a son, Dean Corliss and his wife Laurie of Hooksett, N.H.; two daughters, Meredith Corliss of Pittsford, Vt., and Lynne Miro and her husband Ray of Shaftsbury; a daughter-in-law, Linda Corliss of Pittsford; a brother, Ronald Corliss of Barre; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Frederick "Ric" Corliss, and a grandson, Erron Russell.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford, where there will be a time to share memories for anyone who wishes at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ray's memory may be made to Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763; or a favorite charity of one's choice.
