"The LaFayette Sun" - December 19, 1900:

Big Real Estate Deal.

The old Central Hotel property on the corner opposite the Hightower building has changed hands. McGehee, Driver and Co. are the purchasers from the D. G. Allen estate. It is said that this company will erect at an early date a handsome hotel on this corner. This will be a great improvement to the appearance of the square and we hope that other like improvements will be instituted soon. LaFayette is the best town in the state and is going to grow to vast dimensions.

Last Notice.
To those still indebted to the estate of D. G. Allen.

$175,000 is uncollected on his books. This amount is due his wife and children by men and women whom he furnished groceries, dry goods and to raise and educate their children. Many a young man and young lady owe their education to him. The eldest daughter of Mr. D. G. Allen has been relieved of "the disabilities of non age" by the Court, and as her guardians, we will have to soon make a final settlement with her. Therefore all those settling on or before December 25th (of this month) we will make a large reduction in their account.
D. G. Allen was an honest man and requested his executors to pay his indebtedness, which they did 100 cents on the dollar with 8, 10, and 12 1/2 per cent interest. No man can truthfully say he owes them a copper. This being true we feel those who owe his estate ought not to force us to bring suits in order to collect these matters. D. G. Allen had no partners either in his business or real estate. He was sole owner, and any failure to pay what is owing him would be simply robbing fatherless children. I will be in LaFayette for the next few weeks to look after these matters.
