Long time resident of Monmouth County, NJ. Served in the US Navy as a Fireman 2nd Class (F2c; the modern equivalent is a Fireman Apprentice, E-2) aboard the USS O'Neill (DE 188) in the both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. His ship was hit by a kamikaze off of Okinawa during the campaign to secure that island.
