HANNIBAL - William E. (Joe) Abbey, 58, of Kirksville and formerly of Quincy, Ill., died at 8:35 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Grand View Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Tom Bedford will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday, April 2, at the funeral home.
Mr. Abbey was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Huntington to William E. and Mattie Pearl Scott Abbey.
He was married to Shelly Hogan on Feb. 21, 1993, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include eight sons, William (Billy) Abbey of La Belle, Joe Joe Abbey, Tryone Todd, and Rico Abbey and wife, Sharon, all of Quincy, Jeffrey Abbey and William Abbey, both of Kirksville, and Gene Vaughn of Springfield; six daughters, Deandrea Abbey Reed and husband, Anthony, of Oklahoma City, Tasha Abbey Burnett and husband, Simon, Kecia Abbey Watt and husband, Steve, Rachel Raymond and husband, Mike, and Kayla Abbey, all of Quincy, and Stephine Abbey of Kirksville; four brothers, Richard Abbey and wife, Laura, and Mark Abbey and wife, Dee, both of Quincy, Sam Abbey and wife, Cindy, of Peoria, and Thomas Abbey and wife, Christie, of LaSalle; seven sisters, Rose Martin and Charlene Stapleton, both of Springfield, Barbara Stemmons and Viola Raymond, both of Quincy, Sylvia Abbey of Hannibal, Diana Abbey of Peoria and Margie Green of El Paso, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Abbey and Frank Talton; and one sister, Thelma Abbey.
Mr. Abbey attended Covenant Life Fellowship in Kirksville.
Memorials may be made in his name to Grand View Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Roy Lewis, Mike Manley, Robert Clay, Ricky Hernandez, Nate Parker, Titus Johnson, Greg Sievers and Donnie Mason.
