Born in Denver, CO, where he graduated from Barnes Business College, Vernon E. Andress was employed by Bankers Supply until joining Continental Oil Company in Denver in 1924. Transferred to Ponca City in 1930, he was put in charge of the products services , a position he held until he retired in June 1969 due to ill health. He married DeMaye Sample in Wellington, Sumner County, KS, 27 March 1932. Two children were born to this couple. Andress was a member of the Presbyterian Church and had served on the board of deacons, trustees and elders. He was also a charter member of the YMCA and had been a cub master at McKinley School. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernest Gough, John Brunhoeber, George Scofield, Addison Hazlett, Bill Woodman and Ben Edwards. The family suggested that those wishing to honor Andress' memory might do so by contributing to cancer research at the OK medical Research Foundation of Okalahoma City, or to the First Presbyterian Church.
