On Aug. 20, 1943, he married Elsie Kuiper in Racine. They were blessed with one daughter and twin sons.Joe was a lifelong farmer in the Waupun area. Working the land gave him much joy. He was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church of Waupun where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and an elder.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Arlene (Morry) De Vries of Randolph; his son, Norris (Lois) Aalsma of Waupun; his daughter-in-law, Faye Aalsma of Waupun; his grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Regnerus, Jody (Dave) Buiter, Phil (Pam) De Vries, Darrell (Joy) De Vries, Dawn (Mark) Mulder, Tim (Sarah) Aalsma, Aaron (Natalie) Aalsma, Bethany (Dan) Slane, Manning (Amy) Aalsma, Martin Aalsma, Matt (Tina) Aalsma, Amber (Joe) Heeringa, Alex and Austin Aalsma; 37 great-grandchildren; his brother, Herman (Alice) Aalsma of Waupun; and his in-laws Nellie (Harry) Kingsfield, Alice Kuiper, and Henry (Pauline) Kuiper, all of Racine.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, in 1998; his son, Norb, in 2007; his grandson, Jeffery Aalsma, in infancy; his brothers, Case (Henrietta) Aalsma, George (Ann) Aalsma; his sisters, Tena (Art) Vande Streek, Grace (Elmer) Navis, Alice and her husbands, Peter Brandsma and Erv Stiemsma, and Marian (August) Boorsma.
Funeral services for Joe Aalsma will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. The Rev. Craig Van Hill and the Rev. Norman Haan will officiate.Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery in Alto.
The friends and relatives of Joe Aalsma may call on the family at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
