Mrs. Madge Gambill Sparks, 76, of 2443 Henderson St., Ashland, a teacher in the Ashland Independent School district for 36 years, died Monday in King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland following a short illness.
Mrs. Sparks was born March 26, 1911, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Norman V. and Amanda Lester Gambill. Her husband, Clarence V. Sparks, died in 1981.
Mrs. Sparks was retired after teaching 36 years at Ashland High School and Paul G. Blazer High School. She was a graduate of Ashland High School and Berea College. She was a member of the first Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughter of the American Colonists, Colonial Dames, Heritage Woman’s Club, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Three Arts Club. She was also active with Friends of Hospice.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum chapel by the Rev. Bill Messer. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Steen Funeral Home, Ashland chapel.
