Mrs. George Thorp of Sebewa Passed Away Last Tuesday
Mrs. George Thorp died at her home in Sebewa on Tuesday last, heart failure and paralysis being causes of death. Funeral services, very largely attended, were conducted from her late home last Thursday afternoon by Rev. Alverson of Sebewa Wesleyan Methodist church. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. Among those from a distance who were present were Walter Thorp of Jackson, brother of George; Anthony, Elmer, Frank and Phares Thorp of Jackson, nephews; Minnie Tran, Onaway, Mich.; Nettie Prentice, Ionia; George Luscher, Grand Rapids; Carrie Luscher, Ionia. The following obituary by an old friend of the family is published by request:
Andie Ingalls was born in Jackson, Mich., April 6, 1850, and died February 13, 1906, after several months sickness.
She was united in marriage to George Thorp March 22, 1868. They came and settled on the farm where she died and which together they had changed from the wilderness which it was to a well-cultured and nicely equipped farm with very comfortable buildings and surroundings. Together with her husband she had shared in the toil and hardships of a new country and had gotten ready to live when she was called home.
She is survived by a husband and five children Nettie Prentice of Ionia, Minnie Tran of Onaway, Charles, Mellie and Anna, living at home.
She will be greatly missed by those who knew her, for she possessed a loving disposition, a charitable nature and had a kindly word and will for all.
