Obituary - Lawrence W. Behan, aged 54, of 341 North Ocean avenue, Patchogue, who held a record as one of the oldest Chevrolet dealers in New York State in point of service, died Monday night at Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Popularly known as "Larry" Behan, he was born in East Islip, but had lived in Patchogue for the past 42 years. He first established his Chevrolet agency 27 years ago, when the automobile was in the "horseless carriage" stage. Mr. Behan moved his agency several times in Patchogue's business section, then bought the Motor Mart on the southeast corner of West Main Street and Railroad Avenue. Despite the part he played in the mechanized transportation field, Mr. Behan clung to his love of horses. He held an interest in several trotters, and the season at Goshen and at other trotting tracks invariably found him in attendance at these events. One of his principal diversions was horseback riding. Mr. Behan was a member of the Patchogue Rotary Club, the Patchogue Lodge of Elks, the Patchogue Lodge of Moose, and the Exempt Firemen's Association. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Gerard Behan of Patchogue; a daughter, Mrs. Richard N. Tucker of Sayville; three brothers, Frank Behan of East Patchogue, John Behan of Blue Point, and Charles Behan of Rockville Centre, and three sisters, Mrs. Richard Kemp of Blue Point, Mrs. Frank Kemp of Patchogue, and Mrs. Martin Rayot of Jamaica. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 in the St. Francis de Sales' R.C. Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. James J. Cronin in charge, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Patchogue.
