James E. Maxwell, 85, Bluffton, a Portland native, died Tuesday at Chrisitan Retirement Community, Bluffton.
Born July 08, 1920, in Portland, to Leo and H. Marie (Williamson) Maxwell, his first wife, Gaynell Hathaway, died in 1991.
He married Ruth Garrison on Dec. 25, 1966. She survives.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired drom Borg-Warner Automotive in Muncie after 30 years.
Other survivors include a daughter, Evelyn L. Maxwell, Muncie; three stepdaughters, DiAnne Wafford and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Bricker; both of Bluffton, and Mrs. John (Sue Ellen) Hinkel, Rio Grande, N.M.; two stepsons, Michael Jones, Bluffton, and Phillip Jones, Decatu, Ill.; 13 step grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Servies are Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with the Rev. Richard Wafford officiating. Burial will be in North Salem Cemetery, Portland.
Visitation is Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
