Will graduated from Christian Brothers College Military High School in 1942. He was drafted almost immediately into the U.S. Army. Several months after completing "Boot Camp" he was selected to attend Officer's Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Infantry.

At the end of WW II he was assigned duties associated with the War Crimes trial in Germany.

After his return to the United States he was given an Honorarable Discharge and enrolled in the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and Apprenticed under his father at the Math Hermann and Sons Funeral Home.

Shortly thereafter the Korean War broke out and Will was recalled by the Army and was promoted to Captain and sent to Korea as a Graves Registration Officer.

He then returned to the U.S. and was discharged returning to work as embalmer at the Buchholz-Koeller Funeral Home and eventually became President of the Buchholz Mortuaries.

He was a tall man, well over 6 feet tall with Wavy Red Hair and when a young man was often mistaken for Van Johnson the Movie Star.

Will was past Member and Chairman of the Missouri State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, past President of Buchholz Mortuaries, Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus, Charter President of Baden Lions Club, past Commander of College Hill Memorial Post 385.
