ELIZABETH-Roy Messmer of rural Elizabeth, a retired area farmer and carpenter, died this morning in the home of his son, LeRoy of Elizabeth. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Carroll. Born Jan. 30, 1893, in Woodland Township, Carroll County, he was the son of John and Bertha (Reusch) Messmer. He married Lillie Rath Dec. 14, 1916, in Mount Carroll. She died in 1970. Surviving besides his son LeRoy are three daughters, Mrs. Marcella Muscia of; Freeport, Mrs. Blanche Frey of Rock Falls and Mrs. Clyde (Arlie) Smith of Savanna; two other sons, Floyd of Westmont and Edwin of Phoenix, Ariz. Also a sister, Mrs. Agnes Davis of Oregon; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son and two brothers. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mount Carroll. The Rev. Ray Kleinhaus will officiate.
