OBITUARY
W. J. Courneya Is Dead At 87; Funeral Today.

Wallace J. Courneya, 87, resident of Detroit Lakes nearly 50 years died Sunday at a Battle Lake rest home.
Final rites were conducted this morning (Wednesday) in Holy Rosary Catholic church with Father Cyprian officiating. Burial was in Holy Rosary cemetery. Four sons served as pallbearers. They are Norman, Garnett, George and Harold Courneya. West Kjos Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Courneya, well known as a building contractor and a farmer in the area, was born August 28, 1875, at Silver Lake, Minn. He was married December 5, 1895, to Hattie Merrit. She preceded him in death along with a son.
Surviving are five sons, Garnett, Norman and George, all of Detroit Lakes; Harold, St. Paul, and Mathias, Fergus Falls; three daughters:Ruby (Edward) Okerson, Alexandria; Marceline (Russ) Steiner; St. Paul, and Lucille (Louis) Boorom, Detroit Lakes.
There are 40 grandchildren and 87 great-grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary was held Tuesday night at the West Kjos chapel.
