ASSUMPTION -Gerald Eugene "Mike" Phelps, 87, of Assumption died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1994).

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption, with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption, with full military honors by the Assumption VFW.

Mr. Phelps was born Feb. 10, 1907, in Assumption, the son of Harry and Deolla Fortner Phelps. He was an Army veteran of World War II, worked as a school bus maintenance operator for Assumption schools and was a member of the Assumption United Methodist Church and Assumption VFW. He married Opal Abbott on Dec. 23, 1947.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Jerry of Assumption; Thomas of Assumption; daughter, Rosetta of Pana; sisters, Lucille Wemple of Pana; Viola Sprinkle of Decatur; two grandchildren; one greatgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Louise Hendricks, three brothers, five sisters and two granddaughters.
