ROCHELLE - Gladys May Wendling, 78, 900 Carlisle Drive, Rochelle, died Wednesday in Rockford Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 9, 1910, in Volney, Iowa, the daughter of William and Margaret Snyder Carpenter.

She married John Wendling in Aurora on Nov. 3, 1928, he died May 21, 1979.

Wendling was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle.

Survivors include son, John Jr. (Ruth), Rochelle; two sisters, Esther Oldani and Marilyn Graham, Aurora; two grandchildren, John Jeffrey Wendling, Clearwater, Fla., and Janine Turner, Staten Island, N.Y.; two great-granddaughters, Safra and Amira Turner.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Horace James Carpenter and a sister, Eve Horren.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle with the Rev. Garry L. Briesacher, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Aurora, and arrangements were made by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the church.
