Mrs. Gillis, age 92, of Waynesville, NC, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Autumn Care Nursing Home of Waynesville.
She was born October 4, 1912 in Mecklenburg County, and had resided in Charlotte most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Lacy Dowd and Lola Ingle Greene. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Thomas Gillis, who died in 1990, a brother, David R. Greene, two sisters, Garnett G. Faulkner and Pearl G. Lomax, and a niece, Judy Lomax. She was a graduate of Paw Creek High School and was a member of Assurance United Methodist Church, which was formerly Chadwick United Methodist Church. She was a very active member of her church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann G. and her husband, Reverend Dr. Larry D. Wilkinson, and Glenda Sue Gillis, both of Lake Junaluska; one son, Thomas Lacy Gillis and his wife, Marcia, of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Eric Wilkinson and his wife, Missy, Cindy Husky and her husband, Dr. Greg Huskey, Dale Ann Plyler and her husband, David, and Marc and Darin Gillis; six great grandchildren, Brent and Laura Ann Huskey, Kyle and Sydney Wilkinson, and Anna and Grace Plyler.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Hankins-Whittington, Dilworth Chapel with Reverend Chris Westmoreland and Reverend Sara Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the services at the funeral home.
