RUBY REDMON BUCKNER WHITT

ASHEVILLE-Ruby Redmon Buckner Whitt, age 88, of Asheville, died Wednesday, August 3 2011.

Mrs Whitt was born August 15 1922, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church and retired from Square D. She loved to work in her garden and in her flowers. She was a daughter of the late John Harrison and Anna Mae Gaddy Redmon. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband Gorton Homer Buckner who died in 1974 and her second husband, Kelly Whitt who died in 1995, brothers Troy and Scott Redmon; sisters Bertha Griffin and Dollie Farmer.

Surviving are her son, Bobby Ray Buckner and wife Brenda of Alexander, stepson, Bill Buckner and wife Pat of Asheville. stepdaughter, Betty Goforth of Weaverville, sisters, Joyce Sluder of Asheville and Ava Ward of Nebo; grandchildren, Shelley Rice and Arlene Emery; step-grandchildren, Debra Edwards, Pat Staigo, Teresa Clinton, Sandy Monigold and Billy buckner; two great grandchildren and ten step-grandchildren and five step great-great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday August 6 2011 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Donald Whitson officiating. Burial will be in French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Bobby Ray and Brenda Buckner.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to French Broad Cemetery, Fund, P.O. Box 122, Alexander NC 28701.
