Dorothea Caroline Trelstad, 93, of Zumbrota, died Friday, August 5, 2011, at Zumbrota Health Services.

Dorothea Caroline Ebert was born in Minneola Township, MN, on August 23, 1917, to Maria (Ihrke) and Wilheim Ebert. Dorothea was baptized by Reverend David Metzge at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN, in 1917, and was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church by Reverend Paul Horn in 1929. She graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1935, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Winona State University, received a master's degree in education psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1966, and also completed additional graduate work at the University of Minnesota and Mankato State University. She was united in marriage to Palmer Trelstad on September 7, 1939, at Christ Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Zumbrota area. Palmer died March 25, 1975. Dorothea was a certified teacher in elementary education, remedial reading in elementary and secondary education, was certified as a reading consultant and in special learning disabilities at the secondary level. She also had additional training in English as a second language which she taught to Asian refugees. Dorothea taught elementary education in Pine Island schools for nine years and also taught in rural schools around the Goodhue County area for several years. Dorothea was a member of Women's Missionary Education, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was active for many years as a choir member, teacher in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and held several offices on the church council. Dorothea was active in state reading associations, teacher associations, and later in state and local retired teachers associations. Dorothea enjoyed her home, reading, and traveled extensively.

Dorothea is survived by one daughter, Judith Lang of Zumbrota; one grandson, Anthony Lang of Superior, WI; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer, three brothers, and one sister.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 11 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, with Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. Burial will be at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements were made by Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel.
