Second Lt. Maurice Crouch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Crouch, has been declared dead, according to word received Friday night by the parents from the war department. Lieut. Crouch disappeared Nov. 27, 1944, while traveling by air from Leyte to Augaur island in the Palau group. Lieut. Crouch, a B-24 pilot, was aboard a C-47 transport on an army mission at the time he disappeared. He was a member of the 22nd bomb squadron of the 5th air force. He enlisted March 17, 1944. Following a visit home, Lieut. Crouch as sent overseas on Sept. 5, 1944 and was in action in the Philippines. His last letter was received here in November, 1944.
Born in Hamilton county, on Nov. 17, 1917, Lieut. Crouch resided in Tipton county after he was 2 years old. In addition to the parents, survivors include five brothers, Sgt. Max Crouch in the Aleutian islands; Ed and Bob Crouch of Near Leisure; Clarence Crouch of Windfall and Junior Crouch, of near Hobbs; three sisters, Marilou, Ruth and Patty Crouch, at home.
