Lyde was the son of William Riley and Lydia Harrison Campbell. His mother died shortly after he was born. He married Lillian Mae Bredlow August 29,1917. They were the parents of three children-Annette, Harry(1923-1941) and Phyllis(1925-1987). Lillian died in 1955. He then married Thelma Dean Woodruff.They helped raise his grandson Robert.
