ELMER F. BLUMEL SR., of RUMSON, died at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. He was a floor installer for Eberhard Floor Covering, Middletown, for 15 years before retiring. Before that, he worked for the Rodman Getty Co., Rumson, for more than 30 years. He was the assistant fire chief at Fort Hancock during World II. He was a member of the Rumson Fire Department, served as chief in 1947 and was also past president. He was a member of the Firemen Relief Association and the Firemen Exempt Association. He was a member of the Schussboomer Ski Club at Fort Monmouth and was as an accomplished skier. He received many gold medals in Nastar competition. He was a member of the Jersey Ski-Ters Waterski Club, where he enjoyed competitive skiing. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Rumson Ramp Club. and the Rumson Senior Citizens Club. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Rumson for more than 70 years. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Walter, and his parents, William Blumel and Elizabeth Blumel Brodell. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Grace M. Flannelly Blumel; two sons Elmer "Butch" F. and Robert J.; a daughter Janet M.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
