Funeral services for Charlie Martin Wiesen of the Maxdale community were held Sunday at Copperas Cove Baptist Church with Rev J.C. Morgan of Killeen and Rev. Henry Henson of Copperas Cove officiating. Mr. Wiesen had been suffering from a throat infection for about 10 days. He was taken to Scott & White Temple Hospital Saturday but died about 12:30pm. Born Dec 22, 1888, he married Miss Millie Lindsey Dec 20, 1922. He was father to Charles Marvin, Emmett Gordon, Lerlene Christell and Eula Faye. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah L. Wiesen, Nov 30, 1936, and an infant son, Barney Gayle, Jan 27, 1932. In addition to his wife and 4 children, he is survived by his father, F M Wiesen, of Abbott, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Charlie Wiesen was drafted in June of 1918 for military service in WWI. He was sent to Camp Travis in San Antonio June 25th, 1918 but received a medical discharge a short time later. Charlie was a Master Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge for 23 years. He was initiated (Oct 1914) and raised (Jan 1915) at Irene Lodge #517. As the family moved around thru the years he was affiliated with Salado Lodge #296, Mt Hiram Lodge Copperas Cove #595 and finally, Florence Lodge #338 at the time of his death. He was also a member of Browning Missionary Baptist Church.
