He married: (1) Maria Ellen ("Mira") Lynch on 10 Sep 1865 in Perry Co., IN; & (2) Mary Catherine Lampkin on 30 May 1897 in Hartford, Ohio Co., KY. There does not appear to have been a divorce from Mira. And, when he filled out various pension documents, he conveniently forgot about his marriage to Mary Catherine. However, Mary Catherine obtained a widow's pension.
Ben & Mira had the following children: Mary Eva (Rohl); Matilda Elizabeth (Stines); Michael J.; Martha J. (Nickelson); Geneva Ann (Carr, Bovinette); Clyde Forest; & Bertha P. (Gross).
Ben & Mary Catherine had the following children: Ethel Mae (Haycraft); Mary America Snowdrop (Thoman, Stevens); Claude Earl; & Maude Pearl (Brown, Knowles).
Note that his death certificate shows the wrong date of birth. Ben's Civil War pension files include several questionnaires he completed and statements he signed showing he was born 26 Jul 1846. His mother's name is also incorrect on his death certificate. One of the statements in his pension file includes his parents' names. He wrote: "My Father's name was Thomas Sprinkle. My mother's name was America Sprinkle (ne Galy)."
