Bernice F. Bemowski, age 96, Plover, died July 29, 2014, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center.

Bernice was born June 21, 1918, in the Town of Eau Pleine, Portage County, a daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Kropidlowski) Buza. She attended local schools.

On August 29, 1936 she married John Bemowski, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. John preceded her in death on April 24, 1967.

Bernice was employed at the Whiting Hotel and the Worth Company. In 1945 she and John started the Hilltop Tavern business which she operated for 39 years.

Bernice was an active volunteer at the Lincoln Center and at the Holly Shop. She enjoyed golfing, square dancing, curling and bridge, traveling, and served for many years as a volunteer with the Stevens Point Area Chamber of Commerce. She was also an active patron of the University of Wisconsin Theatre, Stevens Point.

Bernice was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point and a member of the St. Peter's Rosary Society since 1946.

Survivors include one son, Richard (Melaine) Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters Carol (Bob) Ryskoski, Sheboygan, WI; Sister Janice Bemowski, Chicago, IL; two sisters, Theresa (Joe) Montgomery, Stevens Point, and Leona Staudt, Sussex, WI; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Mitcheltree, Marie Konkol, and Helen Patoka, and her only brother Florian Buza.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernice will be held at 11 a.m. Friday August 1, 2014 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point with the Rev. Thomas Lindner officiating.

Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the funeral mass. A general rosary led by the St. Peters Rosary Society will be prayed in church Friday morning at 10:15.

Burial will take place at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Stevens Point.

In lieu of flowers Memorial may be made to the Whispering Pines or Heartland Hospice, Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
