Charles Leo Alakson, 88, died Dec. 23, 2006, in Hemet, Calif.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Guardian Angel Cemetery. The Rev. Alan Burkhardt will officiate. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Charles was born on Sept. 13, l918, In Ely, Minn. He was raised in and attended schools in Stevens Point. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp in April of 1939 and served until retirement as a Master Gunnery SGT. in July of 1968 at Eltoro, Calif. After boot camp, he served aboard the USS Indianapolis. He served with the 22nd Marines in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1944. In 1944, he was stationed in Parris Island, S.C. From 1945 to 1948, he was a recruiter in New York and Connecticut. In 1948 and 1949, he was with the 1st Marines in Singtao, China. He was then stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., until his retirement in 1968. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. In 1976, he went to work for the US Secret Service and served until 1982. He was involved in the protection of presidents Nixon and Ford.
Charles married Dorothy Lyons on March 26, 1945, in Bufort, S.C. She survives in Hemet, Calif.

Charles L. "Chuck" Alakson of California who retired from Secret Service and was presidential protection for ten years for Pres. Nixon and seven years for Pres. Ford and served three years in CCC and 29 years in the Corps.
