His name is found on a ship manifest which arrived at Ellis Island in 1903 but his name is crossed out. He was definitely in the United States by 1913 when his mother and some siblings joined him. David was not married and in 1920 was living with his brothers Oscar and Edward, mother Elbis, and sister Rose. As his father had died in Turkey, David had the pressure of the paternal role in the family in America, and for some getting acclimated to the new culture, language, and way of life was very difficult. There was also a great deal of sadness and depression, having lost so much of the rest of his family during the Armenian Genocide of 1915. One afternoon David told his mother to go on ahead to a family gathering, which made her uncomfortable and so she returned home to find he had committed suicide by gas. His last name is written in Armenian on his grave and the photo of it was taken by "The Haunt of Mount Moriah Cemetery".
