Kathryn Smith Wilson Bender went to be with her Lord on June 16, 2009, on her 95th birthday.

She was the daughter of Graham and Leola Smith, both deceased. She also was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Alan, Jack, David Smith and two sisters, Marie Pate and Rae Bryan.

She was married to Charles W. Wilson for 30 years when he passed away. She really never got over his passing. They were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at the old Belks. She was later married to Vance Henson and O. L. (Ben) Bender. As a grandmother, she was an inspiration. Widowed at 48 (her husband died the same day Kennedy was assassinated), she pulled herself up and worked well into her 80s. With little formal education, you could not get her away from watching the evening news, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. She blessed her daughter and her two grandchildren with love, as well as her curiosity and tenacity.

She is survived by an only child, Patsy Wilson Dennis; two grandchildren, Rick Dennis and wife Annette of Raleigh, NC and Christi Dennis of Austin, TX and an ex-son-in-law, Lonnie Dennis

Kathryn baby sat several children and oh, how she loved her children and their parents.

She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years before she moved her membership to Calvary Baptist. She sang in the YAH choir and was very active in that group there. She had a busy life and loved her church and her many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
