Philip began his life in Kansas, the son of Peter and Polly Weidemaier who were both immigrants from Germany. Peter was a brewer in Doniphan County, Kansas. Philip moved to Colorado by his late teens or early 20s. Philip became the engineer and superintendent of Glen Eyrie, the estate of General William Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Philip married May Miller at the home of Minister/Elder J. P. Lucas in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 2, 1890.
