Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Ashton for Mayme A. Berning, 81, who died at the Sheldon hospital on Jan. 28. Father Henry Weimer and Father Philip Beming officiated. Burial was in St Mary's Cemetery, with Walton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mayme Krogman was born on Oct. 4, 1898 at Ashton, the daughter of
Frank and Anna Berdfeld Krogman. She was married to Ben Berning at Ashton on Jan. 18, 1921. Mrs. Berning lived all her life at Ashton, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by her daughter,
Marcella (Mrs. Vincent Marnach) of Ashton, and her son, Marvin, of Coquille, Ore. nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: John A. and Ben of Ashton. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister and one grandson.
