Cornelia Louise LLOYD
Birth: 1842 in Angelica, Allegany Co, NY

Louise Lloyd, born January 30, 1842, passed peacefully into the unwearying activities of her Heavenly Home. For over nine years she has received the cherishing love and care of the Sanitarium doctors and nurses. Often Miss Lloyd expressed her appreciation of Dr. Mary Greene's and Dr. Fanny Hurd Brown's devotion, and said she wouldn't have believed any Sanitarium could be so home-like. Whenever her strength and the weather permitted, she was taken out of doors for a drive.
Her chief joy in later years was to attend the Sanitarium vesper services. She always lingered in the parlor for a social half hour and was one of the wittest and best informed member of the happy group. The occasions on which she received visits from her nephews and members of their families and her birthday anniversaries celebrated by Dr. Greene were truly red letter days for the invalid. Miss Lloyd was only sixteen when she first became a patient at the Sanitarium. She was so feeble that she was taken from Angelicia in the family carriage with frequent stops at hotels for rest. Her home doctor considered her case hopeless. Under Dr. Cordelia Greene's wise care. she steadily gained and in six months returned by train to Angelicia. Her family physician seeing her in the street with her father, rushed to her with a welcome greeting, saying, "I regard you almost as one risen from the dead." A brief story of this period is related in Cornelia Lloyd's own words in the "Story of the Life and Work of Cordelia A. Green, M.D." Judge Lloyd, the father of Cornelia, was one of the outstanding men of the county. His home, a stately stone residence, is still one of the landmarks of Angelicia. Miss Cornelia's health steadily improved. After graduating with honors from Elmira College, she taught for years and was the successful head of a school in Staunton, Va.. The succeeding twenty years were spent in Washington, D.C. where she taught and also enjoyed the companionship of educators and philanthropists. Miss Lloyd was a rarely gifted teacher, with a personality highly endowed and while in the Sanitarium she received letters from former pupils who gratefully attributed their success in life to her enriching influence. The funeral service was held in the same parlors on Thursday, September 8th, an ideal, colorful day when all nature typified the life more abundant. Ms Anna A. Gordon placed an exquisite red rose, with ample green foliage, on the centre table, and it spoke to all assembled of the earthly life that had been "born into beauty and born into bloom, victor immortal o'er death and the tomb" The beloved friend in her last sleep was surrounded with beautiful floral offerings, the gift of relatives and of Dr. Greene and Sanitarium friends. Miss Lloyd's nephew, Ransom Lloyd Richardson, a lawyer, and his daughter Marian, brought with them from Fillmore, their friend and pastor, Rev. N. R. Shaffer, who conducted the service, selecting appropriate scripture and in his helpful comments and tender prayer he emphasized the precious truths of immorality. The opening inspirational prayer was offered by Rev. Frank C. Putnam of Castile Presbyterian church, of which Miss Lloyd was a member. Rev. and Mrs. Putnam were a sympathetic source of strength to all who assembled for the service. This is the benediction that rested upon the earthly life of Cornelia Lloyd, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."
