The son of Hugh H. Tidd and Mary Given Tidd, Alexander G. Tidd was born in Roundhead, Hardin County 24 April 1838. He married Margaret McElhaney 20 Sept. 1860. He enlisted in the Union Army on 30 September 1864 and served one year in Co. A. 183rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He was a prosperous farmer and owned some 425 acres, including land originally belonging to his father. Known children of Alexander and Margaret are a daughter Arilla Ellen (1861-1874), Frank Metellus (1875-1905), Albert L. (1876-1954) and Hollister Shadley (1881-1970).
