CHARLES EDWARD FRANCIS SCHMITT, SR.
April 17, 1927 – November 14, 1989

Charles Schmitt Sr., 62 of Arnold, passed after a brief illness.

He was a retired carpenter and was also retired from his last job as a welder and repairman with the Coast Guard facility at Curtis Bay. He really loved his
work on the big ships. He was in charge of photographing the damage to the
naval ships and again when repairs were completed. He was also in charge of doing
many memorable photos of events and employees at the yard.
At times he was also an armed guard and apprehended a few criminals during
that time.

Charles was born in Baltimore, MD on April 27th, 1927. He was born very ill
but survived and flourished to have a loving family.

He loved being a Master Mason, Arcana Lodge 110. He was also a proud member of the Palestine Commandery Knights Templar of Annapolis. This was his favorite and he loved to attend. He also belonged to the Boumi Temple Shrine
in Baltimore. He followed the paths of York Rite and Scottish Rite and the
Grand Lodge of MD. He really wanted to be a clown with the Shrine but his work
injury prevented him from continuing to do this. He enjoyed attending meetings and rose to the lead of many of the organizations he belonged to. He continued to raise money for The Shriner Hospital till the end.

His hobbies were stamp collecting, model boat-building, and family history.
He collected antique guns and Masonic memorabilia. He also loved to attend drive-in movies. Cowboy movies were his favorite.

Survivors included his wife, Mary Jane (Mentzell), two daughters: Elizabeth E.
Wroten & Mary Jane Parks, two sons: Charles E. Schmitt Jr. & Lemuel F. Schmitt.
He had many half brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly. He also had 13 grandchildren.

Charles is at rest with his loving wife and brother in law at Crest Lawn Cemetery
in Sykesville.
